Workflow Boards/ SetupReady

Choose The Right Board Template

Pick the board type that matches how the team works.

A board template should create only the useful starting structure. You can adjust settings later, but the first choice should help the team start cleanly.

Key terms

Kanban Board
Best for continuous work where tasks move steadily from To Do to Done.
Scrum Board
Best for teams that plan work in sprints and review a fixed set of tasks during each sprint.
Project Management Board
Best for general business work, milestones, follow-ups, and cross-functional tasks.
Custom Board
Best when the team needs a board that does not match a standard delivery flow.

Minimal Default Statuses

A clean first setup usually needs Backlogs, To Do, In Progress, and Done. Add more statuses only when they represent a real team decision or reporting need.

What To Avoid

Avoid adding specialized templates that are not part of the first release. Too many options make setup harder and create duplicate workflows.

Best practices

  • Use scrum when sprint planning is real, not just because the team is a software team.
  • Use kanban when work arrives continuously and does not need sprint commitment.
  • Use custom boards sparingly so reporting stays consistent.
