Create Your First Project and Board
Create the first project board that a team can use immediately.
A project board should be easy to understand on the first day. Start with the smallest setup that supports real work.
1. Choose The Workspace
Select the workspace where the project should live. The workspace controls which projects, boards, statuses, task types, and workflows are shown.
2. Create A Project
Create the project before creating project areas or project boards. Areas belong to a project, so they should be created only after the project exists.
3. Add Areas If Needed
Use areas when teams need to group tasks by product area, module, department, or ownership. Skip areas if the team does not need this grouping yet.
4. Create The Board
Choose a board template, name the board clearly, and keep the default columns simple. A good first board name is short and recognizable to the team.
5. Create The First Task
Add a task with a clear title, task type, priority, assignee, and description. Move it through the board to confirm the workflow feels right.
Best practices
- Use a board name that is unique and easy to read inside the workspace.
- Do not create areas before the project structure is clear.
- Ask the team to try one real task before adding more configuration.
Common mistakes
- Creating a board without confirming which task types the team will use.
- Adding too many areas and making task creation slower.
- Using separate boards for small differences that could be handled by filters or areas.
