Create and Manage Tasks
Create tasks, update details, move status, and keep work clear.
Tasks are the main work items on a board. A good task has a clear title, owner, status, and enough detail for the team to act.
Create A Task
Open the board, select Add Task, choose the task type, and enter the required details. Use a short title that explains the outcome, not only the activity.
Task Details
- Task type explains what kind of work it is.
- Priority tells the team how important the task is.
- Area groups the task inside the project.
- Assignee shows the main owner.
- Additional assignees show helpers or reviewers.
- Tags help users filter or recognize related work.
- Description gives the team the context needed to complete the task.
- Due date should be used only when the date matters.
Move A Task
Move a task from one column to another when its status changes. If a move is not allowed, the workflow rule will explain why.
Close Or Complete A Task
Move the task to a terminal status such as Done when the work is complete. Use a separate terminal status only if the business needs to distinguish cancelled, rejected, or terminated work.
Best practices
- Write task titles as clear outcomes.
- Keep descriptions practical and short.
- Assign one clear owner whenever possible.
- Use tags for search and grouping, not as a replacement for task type or area.
Common mistakes
- Leaving tasks unassigned for too long.
- Using priority as a status.
- Adding many tags that mean the same thing.
